Enjoy panoramic vistas of Arrieta and Punta Mujeres before winding down into the “Valley of a Thousand Palms,” a name derived from an old tradition of planting palm trees with the birth of every new child. Standing at 272m above sea level, it’s one of the island’s greenest villages and is as authentic as it gets.
Traditional buildings line it’s pretty streets, marked by stone walls with wooden windows and balconies. Enjoy a coffee under the shade of centenary trees before visiting César Manrique’s House Museum.
César Manrique, Lanzarote’s famous architect, bought the palm orchard with ruins in the 1970’s, and began building his new home in 1986. His dream was to create a place where he could paint in peace and to be inspired by nature. He moved into his Haría home in 1988, just four years before his death. Today you can see the property as it was, along with some of his works on display.
There is a traditional market every Saturday morning, selling local produce such as fresh goats cheese, and artisan goods which are more authentic than those you often find on the larger markets. There is normally live music playing and a lovely atmosphere as you wander through cobbled streets and take in the architecture of the older buildings.
